Subject: [newdowntown] Join our 16th Skid Row Neighborhood Walk - Wednesday, October 4th at 6pm at the Midnight Mission (601 S. San Pedro St.)
Please join us for our 16th neighborhood walk, and our first since the
launch of the Safer Cities Initiative. The Safer Cities Initiative is a
huge step toward making Skid Row -- and all of Downtown -- a safer place.
Fifty additional LAPD officers are patrolling Downtown on foot and on
bicycles. Let's show them our support!
LAHSA workers will join us again on our walk, conducting outreach to those
living on the streets, and offering immediate van transportation for any
individual seeking shelter and/or services.
What and Why:
CCEA is working closely with Councilmember Jan Perry, Skid Row residents,
LAPD, state and county legislators, service providers and a multitude of
other stakeholders to affect positive policy changes for our community. Our
monthly walks have successfully garnered the attention of federal, state,
county and city legislators who are all working on various solutions for the
inhumane conditions that exist in Skid Row.
First and foremost is our call for public safety - all people who live
Downtown, and especially Skid Row residents, deserve a crime-free,
gang-free, drug-free and empowered community to call their own.
Regardless of where you live or work in Downtown, please come and make a
difference. We need you to stand strong with us as we call for an improved
quality of life in Skid Row.
